The Hound of the Baskervilles
The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of the famous detecve Sherlock
Holmes novel wrien by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes is a
private invesgator who is famous for his intelligence and case solving
abilies.
In this novel Sherlock Holmes and his friend and assistant Dr. Watson
try to solve the case of a murder that is said to be caused by a giant
supernatural hound that is believed to haunt the family of the
Baskervilles.
The story starts when Dr. James Mormer comes to visit Sherlock
Holmes regarding the death of his friend Sir Charles Baskerville. The
medical report said that the cause of the death was due to a heart
aack but Dr. Mormer also finds footmarks of a giant hound or a dog.
According to an old legend a curse runs in the family of Baskervilles.
The curse started when a man called Hugo Baskerville imprisons and
causes the death of a young woman on the moorland. But later Hugo
Baskerville himself is found dead by a huge hound. It is believed that from that day the same hound is said
to haunt the members of the Baskerville family living in the Baskerville manor. Sir Charles Baskerville, who
was killed and Dr. Mormer both believed in the story of the curse and was now concerned about the life
of the next heir of the Baskerville family, Sir Henry Baskerville. Aer listening to the story of the curse,
Holmes does not believe in it but agrees to meet Sir Henry when he comes to London from his home in
Canada. Aer meeng and talking to Sir Henry, Holmes asks Dr. Watson to go to Baskerville Manor with Sir
Henry and Dr. Mormer and stay there and search for clues.
Later Holmes solves the mystery. You will have to read the novel yourself to find out how he does that and
I assure you that you won’t regret reading it. The book is extremely thrilling and fun to read and it is also
one of my favourite books.
